A central result of the metric fixed point theory is the Banach-Caccioppoli Contraction Principle. Today we have many generalizations of this result, which were given in all kind of generalized metric spaces. If we carefully examine their proofs, one can see that the metric properties, in particular part of the axioms of the metric, are not all the time essential.
