Translations and critical studies (1915 \u2013 2010)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <em>This book is a revised edition of our PhD thesis defended in September 2011 and it motivates the necessity, achievements and importance of the work, consisting of a short presentation of the paper and its principles. As our director of studies, Rodica Dimitriu, in the foreword to her work on the reception of Aldous Huxley in Romania claimed, to speak about the translations and critical studies devoted to a literature in a foreign cultural space is to discuss its literary reception, how it became part of the current literary and cultural-ideological discourse carried out by a different receptive community. This is always a complex and a fascinating enterprise due to the materials that testify to some kind of response to the works. They complete each other in order to shape the image of a literature and its writers that eventually come to be integrated in more comprehensive systems of cultural values. Furthermore, a foreign literature is accounted for by the different angles, stances, viewpoints that have been used in approaching it. Writers and their works follow their own course and find their own place in a receiving culture which is capable of accommodating foreign values as long as they are compatible with its own mentalities, attitudes and beliefs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\n <em>Our main aim is to establish the role of English Canadian literature in the Romanian cultural and literary polysystem starting with the period between the two world wars to communist and post-communist Romania. For this purpose, we will try to distinguish patterns for the investigation of the reception of Canadian literature in each historical period.
