Addressing the idea of the ‘journey’ as an underlying trope representative of both physical and imaginary travel, transition, transformation or any progression towards a goal, the present volume includes a selection of MA student essays which seek to bridge connections between forms of cultural expression (literature and film), modes of representation (written and visual) or elements of narrative communication (involving the text-context and author-audience dynamics). Hence its additional mapping as ‘cinematic’, a word which not only directly intertwines the ‘journey’ metaphor with its visual rendering on the screen, but also, as its Greek etymology directs us to kinema<\/em>, further ascertains mobility as its defining state.<\/a><\/p>\n

For most of these essays, their inception lies with students’ involvement in two study topics included within the master’s programme in Literature, Film and Cultural Representations <\/em>offered by the Faculty of Letters of “Dun\u0103rea de Jos” University of Gala\u021bi, namely “Myth, Literature and Filmic Rewritings” and “The Gothic. From Novel to Film,” while a few others bear witness to students’ dissertation or individual research interests in related subjects, which similarly explore the dynamic traffic between written word and visual representation under headings such as: “Literary Conventions and Filmic Architectures”, “Literary \/ Filmic Text and Cultural Discourse”, or “Art Forms. Literary and Filmic Reworkings.” In addition, the idea of the volume as a whole arouse out of the intention to provide a venue for integrating the fresher insights brought by such young contributions to the above mentioned fields with the more scholarly research on the productive encounter of literature and film undertaken by the members of the English Department at the Faculty of Letters from Gala\u021bi.<\/p>\n
